Striding around Arthur's Seat

The sun came out in the late afternoon of 7th March, 2010, and I took the opportunity to go for a stride-aboot around Holyrood Park and Arthur's Seat, taking the camera that I'd bought for forty quid in Asda a couple of days previously with me so that I could try it out. It was great to be out amongst all those joggers, cyclists and sight-seers enjoying the pleasant weather, and the exercise undoubtedly did me good: I wasn't puffing and panting as I usually am when I arrived back home and came up the three flights of stairs to my flat. I really need to do that more often, but it's going to have to wait for the clocks to change and the longer nights to come in, unless I have the whole day free.

As for the camera, it seems to do a pretty good job. The photos perhaps aren't quite as bright and sharp as I get with the Fuji S-7000, but I think they're pretty amazing for a camera that only cost forty quid. Back in the day, a camera of equivalent price used to take those shitey 110 cartridge films, and you'd be lucky if one photo in three came out. In fact, quite often none of them would come out at all!

When I first moved to Edinburgh in 1993, I lived for a time at Dunbar's Close in the Canongate, in a top-floor flat in the second-nearest tenement block in this photo. My flat was directly beneath the big television-aerial by the chimney. It was a lovely place to live with great views front and back, and a very attractive and friendly young lady in the next-door flat. Moving out of it for an admittedly considerably cheaper-to-rent flat at Gardner's Crescent probably wasn't one of my wisest moves ever!
