Tramway progress

South-westward view along West Maitland Street towards Haymarket Station, 3rd July, 2011. This street will supposedly have trams running along it in a few years' time, after another few £100-millions have been spent.

A ridiculous poster seen in a shop window in West Maitland Street, Edinburgh, 3rd July, 2011. Presumably the idea that we might eventually end up with a public transport system as efficient and comprehensive as those in Amsterdam, Helsinki, Munich or Prague - or even the 47-route-mile system that Edinburgh itself had until 1956 - is meant to strike terror into our hearts. Much better that we stick with slow, noisy, pollution-belching 1920s-technology buses forevermore, apparently. Or are they actually taking the piss?

The remarkably large Gogar tram depot near Maybury under construction on 3rd July, 2011, with track-laying underway on the extensive sidings. Further tracks will be laid into the shed building, and a partly-constructed loop of track runs right around the complex.

A south-eastward view along the RBS bridge which crosses the A8 Road at Gogar on the western outskirts of Edinburgh, 3rd July, 2011.

Testing the zoom-function on my Fuji S7000 camera, which I reckoned to be pretty impressive. Viewed from the footbridge over the A8 road at Newbridge on the western outskirts of Edinburgh, Airbus A320-214 reg. no. G-EZOO prepares for take-off at the western end of the main runway of Edinburgh Airport on 3rd July, 2011.
