Linlithgow

The basin on the Union Canal at Linlithgow, West Lothian, 11th July, 2007. A lovely, peaceful place to be on a summer's day, yet so close to the busy town.

Anyone notice anything a bit odd about this traditional Scottish manse-style house? I refer to that ridiculous porch-type thing stuck on the front of it: it looks like something from The Addams Family! It's the wrong height, the wrong style, built from the wrong materials, and just totally incongruous in every way. How it ever made it past the Planning Department I have no idea. I arrived back in Edinburgh from my visit to Linlithgow on 11th July, 2007, just in time to see the rooftops and chimneys of Cockburn Street and the High Street bathed in the rapidly-disappearing glow of the setting sun. Just moments earlier, the whole view would have been brightly illuminated.
