The proliferation of signage

A series of photos I took for an assignment for my HND Photography course, illustrating the ugly proliferation of traffic signage in Edinburgh. Planning guidance exists for the minimisation and tidy placement of signage, but despite Edinburgh being listed amongst the UN's World Heritage Sites, no heed whatsoever appears to be paid to it.
